CASPER — For years, trying to get a photo of Evanston High School athlete Brady Roberts celebrating, well, anything, was like trying to capture an image of Bigfoot – you wanted to believe it was possible, you just never knew when the opportunity might present itself. It’s not like the kid didn’t have reasons to celebrate. A two-time All-State running back on the gridiron, he’d scored more than a few touchdowns in his day. But after he’d cross the goal line, he’d calmly hand the ball back to the referee and jog back to the sidelines. And with 150 wins on the wrestling mat – aside from an occasional fist pump, you couldn’t tell if he’d just won a match, or changed the oil in his truck; his expression was the same.

The Evanston High School boys’ hoops team opened 4A Southwest Quadrant play Thursday in fine fashion Thursday, thumping I-80 rival Green River 75-51, then followed that Friday with a 67-35 win at Lyman to complete the Uinta County season sweep.

With the 2024 State Spirit competition set for this Friday, the Evanston High School cheer team will be led into the competition by a pair of first-time All-State honorees. Sophomore Dalynn Wisenbaker and junior Talia Case were recently selected to the 2023-24 All-State team by the Wyoming Spirit Coaches Association.

The Evanston High School wrestling team had a solid showing at the Thoman-Jackson Invitational in Green River over the weekend, with three wrestlers finishing the tournament undefeated, and the team placing second overall in the Silver Division. The Red Devils went 5-2 in the dual-meet format, beating Pinedale in the semifinals 46-27, but falling to Roosevelt 45-31 in the finals. Brady Roberts (175 pounds), Kyson Hamilton (144 pounds) and Jaxon Haider (150 pounds) finished a perfect 7-0.

Seven members of the Evanston High School Classics dance team – fresh off of their second-place finish in Hip-Hop at the Bountiful Invitational in Utah over the weekend – returned home to the news that they were named to the 2023-24 All-State Team by the WHSAA.
