Our beloved husband, father, mentor and friend, Roger R. Holden, 83, of Evanston, passed away Tuesday, April 1, in Heber City, Utah. He was born on Dec. 27, 1941, in Winner, South Dakota to Thomas H. and Selma C. Holden.
Roger was a military veteran and served in the United States Army from 1964-1966, including a combat tour in Vietnam. Following his return from military service, he moved to Alaska to work in the oilfields, where he met his wife, Nancy (Dee). They were married on Sept. 28, 1970.
The oilfield industry took Roger and Nancy throughout the United States in the first several years of their marriage, eventually bringing them to Evanston, in 1977. He spent the next several years in Evanston, until they moved to Australia briefly to work in oil and gas exploration.
Upon his return to the United States, he settled back into Evanston and spent the remainder of his working years in the oilfields of southwest Wyoming. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed traveling near and far to visit friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Holden; and mother, Selma Holden.
Roger is survived by wife, Nancy Holden; son, Donovan Holden; brothers, Duane and Merle Holden; and sister, Donna Shippy.
A celebration of life will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, at the Evanston Roundhouse, 1500 Main St., in Evanston. An interment service will take place on June 9, starting at 11 a.m., at the Black Hills National Cemetery, 20901 Pleasant Valley Dr, Sturgis, South Dakota.
