Howard Beck passed away Tuesday, Jan. 16 in Evanston, after a long illness. Howard was born in Baltimore, Maryland; graduated from San Marino High School (California) and University of Redlands (California) and served as U.S. Marine Reserve.
He is preceded in death by his father, Howard Beck; mother, Kay Beck; and brother-in-law, Harry Myers II.
Howard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Harriet; adopted daughter, Susan Mosher; sons, Johnathon and Patrick; granddaughter, Christina Johnson (Hunter); grandsons, Aaron and Michael Kulinski and Ryan and Joshua Hoover; great-granddaughters, Athena Kulinski and Arisa Johnson; great-grandson, Hunter Johnston Jr; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Tijuana and Tom Hockstra, Suella and Spencer Klevenow; sister-in-law, Mary Myers; niecees, Brandi Myers (Shawn) and Stacy (Scott) Gilreath; and nephews, Gerrit (Sheryl) Hockstra, Stephen (Jennifer) Hockstra, Harry Myers III and Jordan Klevenow.
Howard enjoyed traveling, running marathons, college sports, track and field events, cars and his family. He believed in giving back to his community by his membership in the Rotary Club and as a Paul Harris Fellowship member, serving as a reserve deputy sheriff and board member for Chino Valley Fire in California.
He retired early from ARCO as assistant director of public relations and enjoyed working as security officer for gold and armored car companies, picking up the Unita County Herald in Green River and supervising adolescents doing community service in Evanston. While in high school and college, he was an outstanding member of 100 and mile relay teams.

A celebration of his life will be held at noon on Sunday, Jan. 28, at Union Presbyterian Church, located at 10th and Center streets in Evanston. A luncheon in Sheldon Hall will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Evanston Rotary Club or Soroptimist International of Evanston.
