EVANSTON — Local whiskey coinsurers joined their Wasatch Front counterparts to raise funds for the Evanston Youth Club on Saturday, Feb. 24, when Border Beverage held the third annual Bourbon Bash. The event drew about 75 people to the local liquor store, most of whom traveled from Utah for the event.

EVANSTON — The Strand Theatre was nearly full of people on Saturday, Feb. 24. Locals and visitors were there to watch a production of “The Vagina Monologues.” Soroptimist International of Evanston (SIE) produced the rendition of the monologues as a fundraiser for their programs that assist young girls and women in the community with educational opportunities.

EVANSTON — When Cheryl Sherman was 14 years old, she lost a dear friend — her dog, Whiskers. Her grief remained with her through her adult life and just recently she was able to talk about the death of Whiskers. Her strong attachment to animals of all kinds and her understanding of how people feel at the loss of a pet influenced her to focus on becoming an animal chaplain or, as she calls it, an interspecies chaplain.

EVANSTON — Friends of Bear River State Park raised funds in a first-time raffle for the park’s interpretive education programs and improvements.

EVANSTON — A swearing-in of new Evanston police officer Chad Carson started the Dec. 5 city council meeting off on a positive note. Evanston Police Chief Mike Vranish introduced Carson. “We are excited to have Chad Carson as a member of the department. He served his country in the U.S. Army and completed two tours in Afghanistan. We think he will be a strong force in our town.” Vranish said.

EVANSTON — Directing the Evanston Civic Orchestra (ECOC) this season is James Cavazos, originally from Houston, Texas. Cavazos moved to Evanston in 2020 during the pandemic when he and his wife Victoria decided to leave Texas.

Evanston Rotary International spent the fall months working to benefit local elementary school children in Uinta County. Throughout October, Rotary members collected donations of “The Big 5” winter clothing items for school kids, including coats, snow pants, boots, hats, and gloves, to help those in need stay warm on the playground throughout the winter.
