Rio Oso trail run

EVANSTON — The Evanston Parks and Recreation District held its first ever Rio Oso Trail Run Saturday, Aug. 19. Several people participated, mostly the Evanston High School cross country teams, to run through a mountain bike trail at the Bear River State Park.

This event was sponsored by NGL, BRORA, Bear River State Park, and EPRD. The trail run, primarily on dirt trails, began at the south end of the Bear River State Park and looped out and back along the Rio Oso Trail. Runners ran approximately 5 kilometers (although because of the terrain and actual trail length, the run was closer to four miles). The EHS Cross Country team also participated in the race on an exhibition basis.

Families, individuals and teams jogged and ran over rolling, narrow dirt paths through the sagebrush-strewn hills through the lush Bear River banks.
