Outlaws fall to Rock Springs

Posted

It has been an up and down season for the American Legion Post 41 Evanston Outlaws. Evanston completes the regular season with a 12-24 record.

On Monday, Evanston traveled to Rock Springs to face the Sandpuppies. The Outlaws jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Brandon Wicks singled on a ground ball to center field and then Seth Lloyd grounded one to the shortstop and was out. Wicks advanced to second base, then Braedon MacDonald doubled on a fly ball to center field and Wicks scored. Beau Lloyd singled on a ground ball to third base allowing MacDonald to score. The top of the first inning ended with Evanston holding a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the first inning, Rock Springs answered the Outlaws when Holden Cain singled on a fly ball to center field and then J. D. Hamby hit a homerun to center field and tied the score at two each.

In the top of the second inning, Outlaw Reid Gross singled on a pop fly to second base and then Hunter Hicks walked. Brandon Wicks hit a fly ball to right field and Gross advanced to third. With bases loaded, Seth Lloyd grounded out to the shortstop and Gross was able to put another run on the board for the Outlaws. Then MacDonald doubled on a fly ball to right field. Both Hicks and Wicks scored and the Outlaws took what seemed to be a commanding lead of 5-2.

In the bottom of the third inning, Rock Springs came fighting back. Drew Grossnickle tripled on a fly ball to center field and then Wyatt Martinez singled on a ground ball to third base. Grossnickle held at third base. Holden Cain doubled on a fly ball to center field allowing Grossnickle and Martinez to score. The Sandpuppies had closed the gap and the score was 5-4 in favor of the Outlaws, but it wouldn’t last. The Sandpuppies put together two more runs to close out the third inning, taking the lead away from the Outlaws with a score of 6-5.

In the fifth inning the Outlaws tied the game up again when MacDonald hit a homerun on a fly ball to center field but the Sandpuppies came right back with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to retake the lead 8-6.

After those two runs, the game was all Rock Springs. The Outlaws were able to score one more run in the top of the seventh inning when Beau Lloyd singled and drove Wicks home but by then the score was 10-7 in favor of Rock Springs and they never looked back. Rock Springs put together three more runs in the seventh inning and another run in the eighth inning to end the game with a commanding score of 16-7 over the Outlaws.
