Girls fall to Green River and Star Valley

EVANSTON — The Lady Red Devils dropped a close decision to the Lady Wolves in Green River on Valentine’s Day, 44-39, to split with the Lady Wolves in conference play. Evanston defeated Green River in a 41-39 thriller on Jan. 17 at Red Devil Gym.

Then, on Saturday, the third-ranked Lady Braves demonstrated why they are deserving of a top-five designation, with a 53-39 win to sweep the Lady Red Devils in conference action. The game started favorably for Evanston as senior captain Kori Deru connected on two from downtown to give Evanston a 6-0 early lead, but once Star Valley got going they didn’t let up, despite spirited play from Evanston. The back-to-back conference setbacks drop the Lady Red Devils to 2-3 in conference play and 11-10 overall.

Natalie Robbins led all scorers with 18 points against Green River. Ajahonna Archuleta added nine and Taryn Wagstaff contributed six points.

Deru led the Lady Red Devil charge with 12 points against Star Valley, shooting 4-7 from beyond the arc. Zocia Nowakowski, Amber Lowe and Kaelyn Hiatt all ended with six points.

Evanston travels to Jackson on Feb. 23.
