William “Marion” Dunning passed away on Thursday, Feb. 8, at the age of 80.

Marion was born Feb. 21, 1943, in Salt Lake City, to Bill and Leona Dunning.

He was raised and attended school in Evanston until he began his service in the U.S. Navy in June of 1961. Marion served his country as a “Seabee,” where he acquired many skills in the construction trades until his honorable discharge in 1965.

He returned to Evanston, working as a self-employed contractor until his retirement in the year 2000.

Marion is survived by his wife Gay Lynn Dunning and his three children from a previous marriage Robert Dunning, Martin Dunning and Denise Dunning.

Marion is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Leona Dunning; and brother, Clark Dunning.

Marion loved to work on projects and always stayed busy. He was rarely seen without one of his trusty dogs at his side or in his pickup truck. The people who knew him could count on his early morning coffee visits and his evening reports on that day’s project.

A celebration of life will be held by his family and friends at a later date.
