It is with great sadness to announce that Scott Allen May passed away, surrounded by his loved ones, on July 29, at 10:20 p.m., at IMC hospital in Utah. Scott was born on Oct. 24,1966, in Rapid City, South Dakota, to Jerry May and Mary (Bill) Hubbard.
In Scott’s youth he enjoyed working on cars, fishing and spending time with friends and family. He also had a passion for sports. He took up golf, playing whenever he could with family and friends. He was a very accomplished dart league player and was awarded many pins for his shooting prowess. He played baseball from 7 to 18 years of age. He was a great pitcher and all-around player.
Growing up he was also a Cub Scout member and collected almost every badge you could. Scott was also a die-hard Denver Broncos fan and enjoyed collecting all sorts of memorabilia. His interest in motorsports included being on his cousin Todd May’s pit crew in the early 1980s and having a racing lineage. He also built and drove several demolition derby cars with his good friend Matt and the kids. He entered them into Utah and Wyoming demolition derby events.
Scott graduated in 1984 from Rapid City Central High School, where he learned the skills of machine shop and welding. He placed second his senior year in the annual VICA competition in welding. In the summers, he worked for Uncle Louie at May’s Auto and helped with the May Race Team at James Motors.
Scott moved to Huntington Beach, California, in 1988, where he met the love of his life, Lynn Guthrie. They moved to Rapid City, South Dakota, and had the most beautiful wedding in 1990.
The family moved to Evanston in 1997, where Scott worked at the Ace Hardware store for 18 years and the Flying J for seven years.
Scott was very talented, they called him Mr. Fix It, and he accomplished many side projects and odd jobs throughout the years.
Scott and Lynn had two children together, Breanna and Brandon; and another daughter, Sara; and two stepchildren, Steven and Tara.
Scott loved being a father and was definitely everyone’s superhero. He had such a kind heart and would help anyone he could. He was known for the guy in town who would bring his best furry friend with him everywhere he went, Lil’ Louie. The “no dogs allowed” rule never applied to Lil’ Louie.
He would always take the kids and family on adventures — road trips, camping, swimming, fishing, bowling, golfing, amusement parks, nickel arcades, concerts, ghost hunting, school events, and even coached us kids in baseball throughout the years.
Our dad did his best to do it all and made our moments last. We are so proud of him. Scott was also known for his great sense of humor and joke-telling that always brought people together to have a great time and a good laugh.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Keep on flying high and continue watching over us all. We love you so much, Pookie!
