Richard J. Pivar

Richard Pivar, 60, passed away at his home in Evanston on Nov. 16. He was born in Chicago on Dec. 20, 1957, the son of Richard Leo Pivar and Bonita Pivar. 

He graduated from West Leyden High School. He served four years in the United States Navy.

He moved to Evanston with ESAM, the company he worked for in Grants Pass, Oregon. He worked for Metals Technology from 1995-2004 as a painter and welding inspector. He worked for VRC and Redi, where he tested and repaired pressure relief valves at gas plants. 

He enjoyed fishing, bike riding, model building, cooking, the Chicago Bears and working on all kinds of projects and crafts in the garage. He liked talking to people and hanging out with friends at the VFW. He always looked forward to having the grandsons visit during the summer. 

Survivors include his life partner, Barbara Spruill; Barbara’s son, Michael; Barbara’s daughter, Destiny Sporn; and Destiny’s sons Ryley and Braxton. He is also survived by his mother, Bonita Pivar; two sisters, Bonnie and Vicky; one brother, Victor; and a son, Eric. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Leo Pivar. 

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
