John Glenn Bartlett passed away from dementia, acquired by stroke, with his daughter by his side, on Monday, July 7. (We were so close to his 79th birthday!) John was born in Birmingham, England, shortly after World War II, to his father Glenn Bartlett and mother Joan Bartlett.

John is survived by two daughters, Kristina and Jennifer; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David.

John was a man of many talents. He spent some time on the Salt Lake City police force, helped open Solitude, and worked for years on the ski patrol team at Brighton. John worked as a journeyman pipefitter. He helped build the space shuttle and loved using his metalworking skills as a hobby craftsman.

John enjoyed traveling and lived in many different places in the United States He made so many friends along the way with his special talent to get anyone to smile, and made people laugh effortlessly with his genuine spirit.

John loved his vehicles. I could not possibly pick just one to mention as his favorite.

Special thanks to the Pipefitters Union and John’s Union Brothers, especially Carl Kafer, his best friend. Carl’s help was indispensable the last few years.

Special thanks to the staff and residents at Sunridge Care facility for loving John and giving him a place to connect. Special thanks to Serenity Home Health and their kind and caring staff.

In lieu of flowers, I would ask you to consider donating to caregivers for people with dementia. This is a mentally and emotionally taxing responsibility that often goes without enough support from the community.
