It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Howard Gene Woody, 60, on Thursday, May 22, at Renown Hospital in Reno, Nevada. He was born Sept 29, 1964, in Laramie, to John G. and Judy A. (Struble) Woody.
Gene grew up in Mountain View and attended Mountain View High School. In 1989, he married Kim Lester, and they were blessed with two sons, John Robert “J.R.”, and Micheal. They later divorced.
On April 4, 2006, he married the love of his life, Lisa (Hunt) Anderson. To that union he was further blessed with a bonus family of Brett (Jessica), Matthew and Scott Anderson.
Gene had a great love for his grandchildren, family, friends and his dog, Snoopy. He was always willing to give of his time and talents to help others. He loved driving, working on and talking about cars, owning several classics, which he enjoyed driving, racing and entering parades and shows.
He and his buddy, John Bailey, won several awards while racing, including first place in the 2024 Nevada Open Road Challenge, third in the Silver State Classic and being chosen to race in the Open Road race in Nebraska for this year.
He also enjoyed model building, collecting Matchbox cars, playing pool, rockhounding and fossil hunting. He loved the desert, participating in poker runs and listening to rock music. He was a member of the Unknown Saints Motorcycle Club and the British Car Club of Utah.
Gene is survived by his children J.R. Woody, Mike Woody, Brett (Jessica) Anderson, Matthew (Erin) Anderson and Scott (Emily) Anderson; his grandchildren, Emily, Charlotte, Bridgett, Rody, Elizabeth, Russell, Maggie, Jett and Kaladin; father, John; stepmom, Roberta; brother, Eric (Susan) Woody; half-siblings April (Matt) Woolsey and Mike Dossey; stepsiblings, Jason Beach and Sandy (Tony) Nolasco; and several nieces and nephews.
Gene is preceded in death by his wife, Lisa; and mother, Judy.
A celebration of life will be held at the American Legion Hall Post 36, in Fort Bridger, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 31.
Gene will be missed by many.
