Donald Richard George passed away on Tuesday, July 26, at his home, surrounded by his wife and children in Washington, Utah, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Evanston, on Nov. 25, 1954, to parents, Hiram William George and Dorothy Rose Carpenter.

On Feb. 25,1977, Don married the love of his life, Catherine Condie George. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City, Utah, temple on Feb. 25, 1978. After a few years in Utah, they moved their family back to Evanston, where they raised their children. They have been married for 45 years.

Don was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served a mission in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Don served in various callings, including bishop and a counselor in the stake presidency, but his true love was being the primary chorister.

Don’s talents took him all over the world. From a young age, he loved participating in high school theater, school choir — by which he traveled to Europe — and was an alternate for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Don enjoyed being part of the community arts — the civic orchestra and “Hats Off to Broadway” production.

Don loved growing up and raising his children in Evanston. He served on various boards such as hospital and school, always wanting to be involved in the community he adored so much.

Throughout 40 years of employment, Don whistled and sang the days away working for the City of Evanston, Pacific Power, alongside Cathie at her daycare, and for Uinta County Planning and Zoning, from which he retired in August 2021.

Family was Don’s pride and joy. Focused on making memories, there were countless family trips to Disneyland, annual traditions including Grandma’s Christmas, building the sledding hill, caroling, summer park hopping and movies in the backyard. He treated everyone he met like family and truly wanted people’s lives to be full of joy and happiness.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Dorothy George; mother in-law, Jean Condie; brother and sister-in-law, Robert (Marlene) George; brothers, Thomas and Timothy George; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy (Gary) Stevenson; and brother-in-law, Steven Croxford.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine; children, Amanda (Greg) Hill of Colorado; Jenifer (Robert) Bowden and Ian Wambold of Utah; Chris (Monica Streeter) George of Connecticut; Justin (Brooke Cheney) George and Holly Swensen of Wyoming; Jeremy (Alisha Sutton) George of Utah; Jocelyn (Mark) Anderson of Wyoming; 27 grandchildren; siblings, Nancy (Kent) Edrington, Brenda Croxford, Randy (Glenda) George, Paul George and Lisa George; sister-in-law, Linda George; and father-in-law, Clyde Condie.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 201 Sage St. in Evanston. Viewing will be at the same location on Monday, Aug. 1, from 6-8 p.m., and Tuesday, prior to the services, from 10 to 10:45 a.m.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Rhodes and the entire oncology department as well as the Dixie hospice team for their love and care of Don and his family.
