Carol Faye Holmes, 85, returned home to her Heavenly Father’s embrace on the afternoon of June 16, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Evanston, Wyomig, on December 14, 1937, Carol spent her entire life in this community. Here, she raised three sons from her marriage to LaVane Holmes, whom she later divorced. In Carol’s early years, she worked at the Strand Theatre and Bell Telephone Company. Later, she worked for the Uinta County School District No. 1 and Key Bank, before finishing her career at Walmart, where she worked for 24 years before retiring.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dooley and Mary Ratcliff; her older sister, Shirley Amsler; and her younger brother Kenneth Ratcliff.

Her family was her greatest joy in life. She is survived by her three sons and their wives: Stuart and Suzy of Evanston; Jeff and Rita of Jackson; and Curtis and Renee of Juneau, Alaska.  She loved being a grandmother, and will be fondly remembered by her seven grandchildren, Joshua, Amanda, Samantha, Rhyan, Andrea, Nathan and Ethan. In her later years, “Grandma Great” enjoyed another generation of family with three great-grandchildren: Addie, Kayleigh and Harrison.

A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she spent countless hours working on family history.

Carol had a gift for making everyone in her life, from close family to new acquaintances, feel valued and important.  She was a friend to everyone she met and was unafraid to remind you of her love.  She always had a hug waiting for you, free of charge.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at the Evanston 4th Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 201 Sage Street in Evanston. Viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a contribution in Carol’s memory to the Uinta County Senior Citizens Center at www.uintasenior.org/donate-volunteer.
