EVANSTON — Dr. Laura Huggard is the new director for the Bowen Young Musicians Festival. On March 29, the annual event was held at Evanston Middle School. Huggard is a new transplant to Evanston and said she has fallen in love with the community, especially the young musicians’ event.
Huggard said, “Approximately 170 students and two adults performed for world-renowned judges for cash prizes, for adjudication, for coaching on their pieces and for the love of music. Their hours of dedication to their talent was incredible to behold.”
The school district’s donation of the facilities, the sponsors and many community volunteers all contributed to the success of the festival. Other Wyoming communities involved in the festival were included Rock Springs, Kemmerer, Lyman and Mountain View. Students came from as far away as Rigby, Idaho, and from the Utah communities of Saratoga Springs, Heber City and Coleville.
The Bowen Young Musicians Festival is a program of The Arts Inc.
Students participating in the honors concert in the evening were: Isaac Smith, Randi Mair, Lizzy Heaton, Lily Botts, Ariana Smith, Sage Simmons, Olivia Smith, Molly Thompson, Avery Seitz, Emmeline Botts, Savannah Ricks, Felix Simmons, Ellas Bertele, Luke Willie, Dean Clark, Jonas Metcalf, Grant Wiscombe, Caleb Farr, Brayston Bentley and Leina Magalei.
