Will we demand integrity from our leaders?

In 1938, Hitler wanted Czechoslovakia to cede to Germany, an important part of their country, or risk invasion. On Sept. 29, 1938, British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain met with Hitler in Munich to decide the fate of that country, while the two Czech envoys were kept in a separate room, completely shut out of the negotiations.

At the end of the day, the envoys were informed that an agreement had been reached by  Chamberlain and Hitler, and their country would have to accept the German takeover. Chamberlain then returned to London saying, “... This is the second time in our history that there has come back from Germany to Downing Street peace with honor ... it is peace in our time!”

This was totally false, as history would show.

Now, negotiations are in progress between Russia and other world leaders, without participation of the Ukrainians, to decide on Russia being given the Crimea and other important regions and to impose peace on Ukraine.

It has been said that he who does not study history is doomed to repeat it. During World War II, the deceitful Stalin was referred to as “Uncle Joe” and our great ally.

Will we now make the deceitful Putin a peace-loving victim of the “war started by Ukraine” for “peace in our time,” or will our citizens demand integrity on the part of our leaders?
