The Evanston High School boys’ hoops team opened 4A Southwest Quadrant play Thursday in fine fashion Thursday, thumping I-80 rival Green River 75-51, then followed that Friday with a 67-35 win at Lyman to complete the Uinta County season sweep.

The Red Devils (8-5, 1-0 in 4A SW Quadrant) are back home Thursday against Star Valley (8-3, 1-0 in 4A SW Quadrant), in a battle for the top spot in the Southwest Quadrant.

Red Devils 75,

Green River 51

Behind a gaudy 55% shooting percentage from the floor – including nine 3-pointers – the Red Devils were downright disrespectful of their hosts from Green River Thursday, earning their first 4A Southwest Quadrant win by a score of 75-51.

After a close first quarter, the Red Devils pulled away in the second, and led 35-23 at the break. Evanston turned the ball over just 10 times in the contest, and continued to score in bunches in the second half, en route to the 24-point win.

Three Red Devils finished the game in double figures, led by junior Ryker Lind, who had the hot hand from behind the arc, drilling 5-of-8 3-pointers and finishing with 21 points. Clayton Cook just missed a double-double, netting 15 points and grabbing nine rebounds, while Drew Barker finished with 11 points – including a pair of 3-pointers – while dishing off four assists.

Kai Barker added seven points, to go along with six assists, while Jay Hill finished with six points, and a team-high three steals. Luke Robinette, Cohen Morrow and Jordan Mendez chipped in four points apiece, while Paul Baxter and Ryker Pace rounded out the scoring with two points and one point, respectively.

Red Devils 67,

Lyman 35

The Red Devils continued their scoring onslaught Friday in a makeup game at Lyman, picking up their eighth win of the season, 67-35.

Evanston went on a 20-5 run in the first quarter and never looked back, building a 34-14 lead by the break. Lyman kept it close in the third, but was unable to gain any ground, as the Red Devils completed the sweep of Uinta County teams.

Drew Barker led the charge for the Red Devils, netting 16 points, to go along with five steals and a pair of assists. Kai Barker followed with a double-double, netting 12 points, and pulling down 10 rebounds. Ryker Lind also finished in double figures for the second straight game, finishing with 10 points, while Clayton Cook again flirted with a double-double, scoring nine points and grabbing nine boards.

Jordan Mendez, Brooks Searle, Jay Hill and Brenner Lym chipped in four points apiece, while Paul Baxter and Luke Robinette rounded out the scoring with two points each.
