The Evanston High School boys’ swimming and diving team hosted the 4A West Conference Championship at Davis Middle School over the weekend, placing third overall as a team.

Kelly Walsh won the team title with 292 points, followed by Green River with 277 points. Evanston was third with 197 points, followed by Riverton with 193 points; Rock Springs rounded out the Top 5 with 149 points.

The Red Devils finished the weekend with nine individual placers, including one conference champion and two swimmers earning All-Conference honors.

Jacob Olson ended the weekend as the conference champion in the 500 freestyle, setting a new 4A West Conference record with a time of 5:13.16. Olson also earned a spot on the podium in the 200 freestyle, placing third, with a time of 1:52.96.

Hyrum Bell earned All-Conference honors in both of his individual events, finishing runner-up in the 100 freestyle (50.33), as well as the 100 backstroke (57.50).

Other Red Devils earning a spot on the podium included Michael Jackson, who finished fourth in diving (340.25); Max Ison, who placed sixth in the 50 freestyle (24.91); Michael Adams, who placed sixth in both the 200 individual medley (2:28.00) and the 100 breaststroke (1:15.29); and Kash Quillinan, who finished sixth in diving (308.20).

Red Devils who earned a spot in Saturday’s finals included Lance Bame in the 200 freestyle (11th, 2:06.82) and the 100 backstroke (10th, 1:06.38), Eldon Hogman in the 200 individual medley (8th, 2:23.48) and the 100 breaststroke (8th, 1:10.32) and Brady Schmidt in the 50 freestyle (9th, 25.26) and the 500 freestyle (9th, 5:51.43).

In the relay events, the 200 medley relay team of Hyrum Bell, Eldon Hogman, Max Ison and Brady Schmidt finished fourth (1:49.05), while Lance Bame, Michael Adams, Juan Segura and Brady Schmidt placed fifth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:40.16).

The 400 freestyle relay team of Jacob Olson, Max Ison, Lance Bame and Michael Adams placed third (3:33.81).

For the Red Devils still hoping to hit a state-qualifying mark, they’ll have one more opportunity to do so at Thursday’s Last Chance Meet in Green River. The 4A State Swimming and Diving Championships are scheduled for Feb. 21-22 in Gillette.
