I shouldn’t complain, but I am a small business owner, and it seems every time I think I am getting my head above water, I get another shove back under.

I just received my property taxes, which were over $4,700. I observed that over half of the tax is made up of three different taxes for schools. Nifty! I don’t go to school, and I don’t have any children or grandchildren in school here or in Wyoming.

I do know that tax money is allotted to the schools and if they don’t use it, they lose it. For that reason, I have personally seen a lot of waste in our school district. For instance, if the district maintenance director doesn’t do his job properly on maintenance projects like HVAC, plumbing, flooring, roofing, etc., they hire an architect, who works on a percentage basis.

In my mind, this is a direct conflict of interest. The more the job costs, the more the architect makes.

Anyway, I wish I worked on a taxpayer allotment that I could use up and then find a way to justify more. Double nifty! I complained at the county treasurer’s office when I went in to pay my property tax. They made me feel so much better by offering a payment plan with an exorbitant interest rate.

The letter I received stated that if I didn’t pay the tax, the county would take possession of my hard-earned property. Triple nifty!
