The Evanston Police Department is investigating the death of an inmate at the Uinta County Detention Center. According to a press release issued Monday morning, deputies at the jail found 43-year-old Brandon Ellis unresponsive inside his cell on Monday, July 15.

“Deputies immediately attempted life-saving measures, and the individual was transported to Evanston Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased,” the press release states.

Uinta County Sheriff Andy Kopp said he asked EPD to investigate the death and said no further information is currently available.

EPD Lt. Ken Pearson told the Herald that the death is being investigated as a suspected suicide.

Ellis pleaded no contest to forgery in February and was serving an 18- to 36-month sentence.
