The longest-tenured head coach currently employed at Evanston High School will be noticeably absent when the 2025-26 school year begins next fall.
According to a press release sent out Friday by Uinta County School District #1, the district will begin an immediate search for volleyball coaches at the Varsity, Junior Varsity and Freshman levels, having chosen not to renew the contract of longtime head coach Tera Lawlar, as well as her staff, JV coach Matt Petersen and Freshman coach Erin Watsabaugh.
“The search will focus on identifying dedicated and experienced individuals who are passionate about coaching and who can further elevate the district’s volleyball programs at all levels,” the press release stated.
Lawlar’s release brings to an end a 24-year head coaching career at EHS, with many of her players going on to have successful careers at the collegiate level.
“It’s been my honor and privilege to coach these young women for 24 years,” Lawlar said in a statement to the Herald Monday morning. “The relationships and bonds we’ve created are something I’ll always cherish, and the memories made with each team I’ve ever coached are ones that I’ll keep close to my heart. It truly has been a special experience.”
Uinta County School District #1 thanked Lawlar for her years of service in Friday’s release.
“The district would like to extend its appreciation to Coach Tera Lawlar and her staff for over twenty years of exceptional service to UCSD #1,” the release read. “Throughout her tenure, Coach Lawlar has been a steadfast advocate for student-athletes, guiding them both on and off the court. Her experience, work ethic and commitment to creating positive and competitive volleyball programs have left a lasting impact on the community. Under her leadership, countless athletes have not only developed their skills but have also grown in character and confidence, contributing to the success of the program over the years.”
Anyone interested in applying for the coaching vacancies are encouraged to apply through the UCSD website.
