The Evanston High School volleyball team hosted the Evanston Border Wars Tournament over the weekend, posting a 3-5 record against some talented competition from Utah and Idaho.

Head coach Tera Lawlar’s young squad began the tournament Friday with a 2-0 win over Soda Springs (25-12, 25-11). Kyan Lawlar led the team with eight kills, followed by Alyssa Brown with six kills; Jaylie Critchfield and Rhyen Debenham had two kills apiece. Critchfield and Autumn Neely each had two aces at the service line, and Brown led the team with 10 digs, followed by six each from Critchfield and Debenham.

The Lady Devils lost their next match against Grace, 2-1, winning the first set 25-23, but dropping the next two, 25-8 and 15-6.

Evanston rebounded with a 2-0 win over Manila (25-10, 25-12). Lawlar led the team in kills with 10, followed by Kaisli Fitch, with seven. Brown and Lawlar each had four aces at the service line, while Brown Critchfield and Lawlar finished with six digs apiece.

The Lady Devils closed out play Friday with a 2-0 loss to Rigby (25-21, 25-13).

The Lady Devils opened play Saturday with a 2-0 win over Murray (25-22, 25-17). Brown led the attack with 12 kills, followed by five from Debenham and four from Lawlar. Fitch led the team at the service line with three aces, while Lawlar was tops in digs with 13; Brown and Critchfield had seven digs apiece.

Evanston squared off against South Summit next, losing 2-1 (25-18, 23-25, 15-13) in an exciting match, made even more so by the cheering of the EHS student section. A 2-0 loss to North Summit (25-9, 25-18) followed, and the Lady Devils closed out the tournament with another nailbiter, losing to Uintah 2-1 (25-20, 20-25, 15-13).

The Lady Devils are on the road this weekend in Afton for the Star Valley Invitational.
