EVANSTON — The Evanston High School volleyball team split it’s final two conference games of the regular season, earning a 5-set win over Star Valley Thursday at home, then falling in four sets 3-1 Saturday at Jackson.
Thursday’s win over Star Valley clinched the No.1-seed for the Lady Devils (24-12, 5-1) coming out of the 4A Southwest Quadrant heading into Friday’s 4A West Regional Tournament, hosted by Evanston.

Thursday night was Pink Night for the Lady Devils, and for the near-capacity crowd, the action on the court didn’t disappoint, with the home team winning in a 5-set thriller, 3-2.
The win gave Evanston the season sweep over their 4A West rivals, though it didn’t come as easy as the win in September, a 3-0 sweep in Afton.
It appeared early on the Lady Devils were poised for another early evening, as they took the first two sets, 25-21, 25-11.
Star Valley decided they weren’t going home without a fight, however, easily winning set three 25-13, then holding off a late rally in set four to win 25-23.
With a fifth-set tiebreaker to decide the match, the Lady Devils jumped out to an early lead, and were able to maintain, winning the set – and the match – 15-12.
“The girls showed grit and didn’t give up during the match,” said EHS head coach Tera Lawlar. “I am proud of their fight and their determination to get the win on Thursday. It was clear they had something to play for, and clinching the Quad was a great accomplishment and certainly a goal we had set early in the season.”
Kyan Lawlar led the attack with 26 kills, followed by 18 kills from Alyssa Brown. Cassie Barker finished with five kills, while Jaylie Critchfield added four.
Brown led the team with 15 digs, while Lawlar and Brinley Hanks finished with 14 apiece. Lawlar and Dannon Kohler had two aces each at the service line.

The Lady Devils closed out the regular season Saturday at Jackson, and the Lady Broncs – who have been playing tough of late – were able to avoid the season sweep with a 3-1 win on the home court.
Evanston won the first set 25-19, but were unable to duplicate that success, dropping the next three sets, 25-18, 25-20, 25-18.
“Never like to lose, but we will use it as a learning opportunity and focus on skills we need to work on,” Lawlar said. “We really wanted to go 6-0 in the quad, but we will use this loss as a wake-up call for us, and to make sure we reset and prepare for this upcoming weekend.”
Kyan Lawlar paced the Lady Devils with 12 kills, followed by Alyssa Brown with 10 and Cassie Barker with eight. Jaylie Critchfield had the hot hand at the service line, with seven aces.
Lawlar led the team with 10 digs, followed by nine digs from Brinley Hanks and eight apiece from Alyssa Brown and Jaylie Critchfield; Critchfield also finished the match with 27 assists.
