Lady Devils go 4-1 at Casper Invitational; at home Thursday

Lady Devils go 4-1 at Casper Invitational; at home Thursday

The Evanston High School volleyball team closed out its tournament schedule in fine fashion over the weekend, posting a 4-1 record at the Casper Invitational, held at the Ford Wyoming Center.

The Lady Devils opened the tournament Friday with a 2-1 win over Cheyenne Central (25-20, 18-25, 15-8), then followed that with a 2-0 sweep of Campbell County (25-19, 25-24). Evanston closed out play Friday with a 2-0 sweep of Big Horn (25-15, 25-20).

Saturday got off to a shaky start, as the Lady Devils dropped their first match in the Gold Bracket, losing to Douglas in a hard-fought two sets, 25-21, 26-24. Evanston bounced back with a 2-1 win over Big Horn (25-27, 25-22, 15-9) in the consolation championship.

Prior to the Casper Invite, the Lady Devils opened conference play Thursday against Natrona County, losing to the Fillies 3-1 (25-22, 16-25, 21-25, 22-25).

The Lady Devils host Jackson Thursday for their first 4A West Conference home match.

 

Natrona County 3, Lady Devils 1

The Lady Devils opened conference play Thursday against Natrona County in Casper, and got off to a fast start, winning the first set 25-22.

Things went south after that, however, as the Fillies, rattled off three straight sets to win the match, 25-16, 25-21, 25-22.

Kyan Lawlar led the attack for the Lady Devils with 13 kills, followed by 10 from Alyssa Brown. Jaylie Critchfield led the team with 17 digs, followed by 14 from Brown; Critchfield, Brown, Lawlar and Autumn Neely each had an ace.

 

Lady Devils 2,

Central 1

The Lady Devils opened the Casper Invitational with a 2-1 win over Cheyenne Central, winning the first set 25-20, dropping set two 25-18, then winning the tie-breaker 15-8.

Kyan Lawlar led the attack with 14 kills, followed by Alyssa Brown with 9; Brown also had 12 digs. Jaylie Critchfield led the team in digs with 16, while Austin Robertson added nine.

Critchfield and Autumn Neely each had an ace.

 

Lady Devils 2,

Campbell County 0

In their second game of the Casper Invite, the Lady Devils swept Campbell County 2-0, winning Set 1 25-19, and Set 2 25-24.

Kyan Lawlar led the team in kills with 10, followed by Alyssa Brown with seven and Jaylie Critchfield with four. Lawlar also led the team in digs, with 12, followed by Brown with 10 and Critchfield and Austin Robertson wi9th seven each.

Brown finished the match with three aces, while Critchfield and Lawlar had one apiece.

 

Lady Devils 2,

Big Horn 0

Squaring off against the No. 1-ranked team in 2A to close out Friday’s action, the Lady Devils swept Big Horn, 25-15, 25-20, and secured their spot in Saturday’s Gold Bracket.

Kyan Lawlar led the team with eight kills, followed by six from Alyssa Brown. Lawlar also led the team in digs, with 11, followed by seven from Jaylie Critchfield, six from Brown and four from Cassidy Coley.

Lawlar dominated at the service line, with five aces, Critchfield finished with two, while Austin Robertson and Autumn Neely each had one.

 

Douglas 2,

Lady Devils 0

In Saturday’s opening match of Gold Bracket play, the Lady Devils fell to Douglas in two sets, 25-21, 27-25.

Kyan Lawlar led the attack with 12 kills, followed by eight from Alyssa Brown. Cassidy Coley led the team with 18 digs, followed by Brown with eight and Jaylie Critchfield with seven; Critchfield, Braelynn Morrison and Brown each had an ace.

 

Lady Devils 2,

Big Horn 1

The Lady Devils found themselves in a rematch with Big Horn for the consolation championship of the Gold Bracket, winning in three sets, 25-27, 25-22 and 15-9.

Alyssa Brown led the attack this time with 14 kills, followed by Kyan Lawlar with 12 and Jaylie Critchfield with nine. Lawlar led the team in digs with 18, followed by Critchfield with 10 and Brown with nine; Critchfield also had a solo block.

Lawlar finished the match with three aces, followed by Brown with two and Critchfield with one.
