The Evanston High School girls’ swimming and diving team hosted the 4A West Conference Swimming and Diving Championships over the weekend at Davis Middle School, placing fifth as a team, with one overall conference champion and eight individual trips to the podium.
Green River finished in the top spot with 308 points, followed by Jackson with 251 points and Kelly Walsh with 210 points. Riverton and Evanston rounded out the Top 5 with 166 and 156 points, respectively.
Rachel Johnson – last year’s 3A South Conference champ – led the charge for the Lady Devils, winning the diving event with a score of 447.60 points. Evanston had three divers make the podium, with Peyton Gilmore finishing third (318.09) and Sydnie Peay placing fifth (260.79).
Lady Devil junior Brooklyn Larsen placed Top 5 in both of her individual events, finishing third in the 50 freestyle (25.84) and fourth in the 100 freestyle (57.82). Lyra Hutchinson also had two Top 5 finishes, placing fourth in the 200 freestyle (2:13.77) and fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:10.47).
Cera Fadden rounded out the Lady Devils’ placers with a sixth-place finish in the 200 individual medley (2:39.25); Fadden also just missed the cut for the finals in the 100 breaststroke, placing 13th (1:24.02).
The Lady Devils placed Top 5 in two of the three relay events, with the team of Clara Hutchinson, Cera Fadden, Lyra Hutchinson and Brooklyn Larsen 2:05.85 leading off the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 200 medley relay (2:05.85), while the team of Lyra Hutchinson, Fadden, Raquel Rasmussen and Larsen finished fifth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:50.97). Rasmussen, Hanah Kolata, Wendy Nowak and Clara Hutchinson finished seventh in the 400 freestyle relay (4:26.54).
