Editor:
I’m writing this letter in regards to the article in the July 31 issue of the Uinta County Herald entitled “City employee caught on hot mic disparaging citizen.” Quite frankly, I was shocked and appalled at what our Evanston Community Director Rocco O’Neill had said.
I’ve known Gina Morrow Sundquist, her immediate family and extended family for many years. They are good people who are upstanding community-minded citizens. I truly believe Gina wanted an opportunity to make things better and more enjoyable for others who mighty use the Machine Shop.
I attended a wedding reception in July at the Machine Shop and can attest to the fact that it was hot — uncomfortably hot. Guests were fanning themselves with unused, lightweight refreshment plates. Men were taking off their jackets and ties. There were some fans, but not industrial and not enough.
I find it interesting that, every now and then, we as citizens of Evanston find out how the people whom we employ really feel.
Mayor Kent Williams needs to hold Rocco O’Neill accountable for what was said. If Williams chooses not to, maybe he needs to be reminded who also pays his salaries and that he — or any of us — is not indispensable.
One last thought: How many other times has Mr. O’Neill been disrespectful and not caught on a “hot mic?” Was he truly sorry in his apology, or was he just sorry that he was caught on a “hot mic?”
