EVANSTON — In case any readers have been wondering about the entry of the steam engine replica in the homecoming parade on Oct. 5, it is the creation of a committee that has been meeting to plan the 150th anniversary celebration of Evanston and the railroad.
This celebration will be held at Depot Square on Saturday, Nov. 10, from noon until 5 p.m. and then movies will be shown at the Strand later in the evening. This event should provide the residents of Evanston and Uinta County a fun and rewarding opportunity to learn more about local history.
Members of the committee represent the Uinta County Museum, the City of Evanston, the Historic Preservation Commission, Uinta County, Uinta County Herald, Chamber of Commerce, the Small Business Network and other interested parties.
A logo has been selected and will be featured on the city’s website as well as on other related online sites such as Good Things Evanston and Evanston Happenings as well as in the Uinta County Herald.
Confirmed activities for the celebration are:
• A tour of historic downtown Evanston with Jim Davis and the Evanston Historic Preservation Commission
• A beard contest
• A display of old photos at City Hall and the museum
• Movies at the Strand Theatre during the day and again after 5 p.m.
• A presentation on Chinese heritage
• Barrel train rides with the Evanston Urban Renewal Agency train
• A ceremony recognizing Evanston mayors
• Train rides provided by AutoFarm Castle Rock
For more information about the celebration, contact Mieke Madrid at City Hall, (307) 783-6316.
