Grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Spring has finally arrived in Uinta County! It is spring cleaning time. Time to open the windows, clean out the closets, scrub the floors, and allow fresh air to permeate the environment.

The American Psychological Association states that fresh air and sunshine increase serotonin, our feel-good hormone enhancing our mental health. Cleaning house is a chore. God’s word can bring new meaning into the mundane.

As Christians we are to do all things for the glory of God. This includes unseen and uncelebrated work at home. Turning on some good music can clear away the rubbish into an enjoyable experience. Turning chaos into beauty is something God does best.

Cleaning house is not just a physical act. Cleaning can actually transform my mind and mood. Cleaning away the dirt of my home often reveals the dirt in my life. Time spent on simple tasks is a great time to talk to God. This time is often when I find the purpose of life, what I need to hang on to and what needs handing over to God.

I can evaluate my personal practices regarding my values and ask the tough questions of God. I cannot do this type of soul searching without Jesus.

Cleaning my spiritual environment is similar to cleaning my house. There is a process in turning the clutter of my life into something that glorifies God. I experience God’s favor when I turn my overly crowded life to him each week.

We are to seek Godly wisdom in all our decisions. This includes how we keep house. As music plays, I move from room to room praying and communicating with God. I thank him for blessings and ask for his protection and presence in our home. When I am done not only do I have a clean house but a house that is protected and blessed.

The Bible is filled with verses to sweep and dust to. I like to start in the bedroom and move toward the door. Moving toward the door serves as a symbol of ridding myself of the trash that tends to accumulate in my life.

Cleaning the bedroom allows me to thank God for a strong and protected marriage, to pray for my husband, never ending love, and for my ability to be the wife God desires me to be. “Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate”- Mark 10:9. The living room is the room we spend the most time in. The living room is a sanctuary, the place I come to when I am weary, feeling beat up, and needing peace.

This is the space my husband and I share together, and I want it blessed by God. Pictures of my family are here, items that bring joy, live plants, my wonderful windows all add to tranquility. When I am lighting a candle or diffusing a scent I am reminded of incense, the symbol of prayers and sacrifices rising up to God.

While cleaning the kitchen I cannot help but feel blessed. God has always provided for us and we have never been hungry. Lastly, the doorway. I am asked to show hospitality to strangers as the person in that doorway may be an angel.

I like the entrance to my home to be welcoming, so I keep it decorated, well lit and inviting. I want my home to be a place of friendship and brotherly love. Next time you are avoiding housework try looking at it with new eyes and let Him transform and elevate your work.
