EVANSTON — The Chamber of Commerce held its fifth annual Light Up the Night Water Lantern Festival on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 5 p.m. until just after dark, when the lighted lanterns are set out on the water. Once again as with the years before, many Evanston residents came out to enjoy the evening’s festivities.
Evanston Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tammy Staley said, “We had around 275-300 attendees and we sold 160 lanterns. It was a wonderful turnout. The funds raised go toward all the different events we sponsor.”
Other sponsors for the evening’s event were Leaps and Bounds Preschool, Uinta Eye and Vision, Fairway Independent Mortgage and the beer garden sponsor was Suds Bros.
A.J. Lamb with Bearded Boombox provided music and was the emcee for the night.
“I would like to give a huge shoutout to ERH (Evanston Regional Hospital),” Staley said. “if it were not for their generous sponsorship, the Kids Zone would not be free for all the kiddos to enjoy. They paid for the bouncy house, face painting, balloon animals and the fishing game.”
Volunteers who helped with the kids’ games were students from Horizon High School and included Zoe Tomlinson, Wyatt Tomlinson, Danielle Flores and Carizma Hart. Girl Scouts volunteered to work in the cotton candy booth.
