EVANSTON — Another fire broke out near Evanston on the afternoon of Wednesday, Sept. 13. Uinta County Fire and Ambulance posted updates and photos on Facebook during the afternoon.
Evanston Fire Capt. Tim Overy said the fire began along Interstate 80, north of westbound lanes near mile marker 12. He said this fire, dubbed the Painter Fire, spread to approximately 28 acres on private land.
Crews and resources from Evanston, Bridger Valley, the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service were still in the area after completely containing the Cowboy Fire the day prior. The Painter Fire was contained quickly and when Overy spoke with the Herald Thursday morning he said the fire was completely contained.
As to the far more extensive Cowboy Fire, which spread to 1,600 acres and took several days to contain, Overy said the cause of the fire has still not been determined as it has not been deemed safe for anyone to enter the wind turbine to investigate. He said it will likely take quite some time to complete the investigation.
