EVANSTON — “The state will not seek the death penalty in the event of a conviction herein,” Uinta County Attorney Loretta Howieson Kallas wrote in a Notice of State’s Election filing dated Nov. 13, concerning the impending first-degree murder trial of Lyman resident Skyler Gray.
Gray has been accused of the Aug. 31 shooting death of Mountain View resident Jeremy Jaques. The fatal assault occurred in Fort Bridger during its annual rendezvous, though it was unrelated to the event.
Gray, who has pleaded not guilty, now faces either life in prison without parole or life imprisonment. The trial is scheduled for March 18, 2025.
In related news, Gray’s alleged accomplice, partner Shadawn Oehler, who was out on bond, was re-arrested on Nov. 21, for violating the conditions of the bond.
Judge Michael Greer’s conditions, dated Sept. 2, explicitly state that Oehler “not have any contact while incarcerated or released on bond either directly or indirectly with Skyler Gray.”
Oehler, who is facing charges related to acessory after the fact after she allegedly told officers she’d thrown the gun out of the window shortly after the crime’s commission, had her initial bond revoked after investigators say she called Gray at the Uinta County Jail several times between October and November.
Oehler has since been re-released on $20,000 bond.
If convicted, Oehler faces up to three years of imprisonment and/or up to $3,000 in fines.
