With Veterans Day approaching and the year quickly coming to an end, I would like to express my appreciation of the community, along with businesses and individuals within that community that have supported American Legion Post 36.

As a veteran organization, our goal is not just to support veterans but to be a contributing asset to the community. This year, Post 36 took on a nationwide initiative of the American Legion, “Be the One,” to end the stigma associated with mental illness and to emphasize suicide awareness, not only for veterans, but for everyone.

The goal is to keep mental health and the awareness and prevention of suicide as an ongoing discussion. We stress looking out for each other, recognizing when something is wrong and listening to what a troubled individual has to say, then steering that individual toward available help. It is an opportunity for everyone to be involved.

I want to thank Benedict Trading Co., Ace Hardware, Union Wireless, Farm Bureau Insurance, Trona Valley Credit Union, and all other businesses and individuals who have contributed time, money and material to Post 36 over the past year. It is a recent practice to thank a vet for their service. We veterans now thank you for your support.
