The Uinta Community Service Center would like to thank the Uinta County Herald for the article regarding homelessness in Evanston, published in the Jan. 3 edition of the paper.

The Uinta Community Service Center was formed as a nonprofit in 2023 by a group of seven individuals who saw a need in the community and wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. Our motto is “Reach Out, Lift Up, Empower Lives.”

We are a first contact to help people find resources in the community as well as all of Uinta County. We want to do more than just provide a bandaid for the situation. One of our goals is to help the individual improve their quality of life so they won’t continue to live at risk.

We would like to recruit more volunteers to assist in serving people, as well as obtain additional funding to fill in the gaps when other organizations and agencies have done all that they can.

Evanston is a very giving and supportive community. When people hear that there is a need, they step up to the challenge.

We would like to clarify that the statistics used in the Jan. 3 article were for services and financial assistance provided by Wayne and Lori Dennis through the Transient Program that they manage through their church. Wayne Dennis is also on the board of directors for the Uinta Community Service Center and serves as board char.

If anyone is interested in becoming a volunteer, donating time, talent or financially to our cause, or would like to refer an individual to us for assistance, we can be contacted at 307-677-5011. Our mailing address is 325 Front Street #224, Evanston, WY 82930.

Our board meetings are open to the public, and we welcome anyone to attend. Our next meeting will be held at noon on Monday, Feb. 12, in the conference room of the Human Services Building.
