Ronald “Pete” Petersen passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the age of 65. He was a husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend.
Ronald was born on July 17, 1959, in Evanston, to Harold and Shirley Petersen. After graduating Evanston High School in 1977, Ronald started working for the City of Evanston, where he worked for 42 years as part of the Street Division. He was a very hard worker and was proud of the time he dedicated to the city.
On February 18, 1983, he married his wife of 41 years, Denise (Parkin) Petersen. The following year, they welcomed their only child, Justin, who was Ronald’s greatest joy in life. Later in life, he would become a proud “Papa” to three sweet grandchildren whom he loved so much.
Ronald absolutely loved the great outdoors. He took hunting trips with his family at Grey’s River. He also loved camping, fishing, rock n’ roll music and NASCAR.
Ronald was preceded in death by his father, Harold; and sister, Dorothy Olsen.
He is survived by his son, Justin (Brooke) Petersen; three grandchildren, Hudson, Greyson and Clara; his mother, Shirley Petersen; his brothers, Larry (Tina) Petersen, John (Doris) Petersen, and Roger Petersen; and Wayne Andersen.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, followed by a reception from 4-6 p.m. at the Evanston Roundhouse for friends and family to share memories and condolences.
