Michael Bata, 63, of Evanston, and formerly of Langdon, North Dakota, passed away Monday, Dec. 9, in Evanston.
Michael Charles Bata was born April 14, 1961, to Charles and Patricia (Berger) Bata in Langdon, North Dakota. He attended St. Alphonsus School through the eighth grade and graduated from Langdon High School.
He went to Evanston and worked for several businesses. Later, he started and operated a trucking business until his health forced him to retire early.
Surviving Michael are his parents, Charles and Patricia (Berger) Bata; his siblings, Ruth (Chris) Zacher of Osage, Minnesota; Daniel Bata of New Town, North Dakota; Randy (Janelle) Bata of Langdon, North Dakota; and Cheri (Charles) Griffin of Pratt, Kansas; along with many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph and Edna (Zettel) Berger and Joseph and Alice (Walsh) Bata, both of Langdon, North Dakota.
Michael was also preceded in death by Susan Butterfield, of Evanston, with whom he shared a fostering relationship with her children and grandchildren: Priscilla Olsen of West Jordan, Utah; Dale Butterfield of Evanston; Cindy Sorensen of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Thomas James Ellingsworth of Evanston.
Also preceding Michael in death were Sabrina Butterfield Harman and Danny Butterfield.
A prayer service will be held for Michael at the Crandall Funeral Home in Evanston on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m. Services and burial will be held in Langdon, North Dakota, at a later date.
