Denise Petersen (Parkin) was born on March 31, 1962, in Evanston, to Leo and Bette Parkin (Child). She was the baby of the family, and her parents adored their only daughter.
She graduated from Evanston High School in 1980. She worked in real estate and various administration positions over the years. Her most recent job involved working with individuals with special needs.
On Feb. 18, 1983, she married Ronald Petersen in Evanston, and they were married for 41 years. Together, they had a son, Justin, whom she loved very much. Her most cherished title in life was “Grandma” to her three grandchildren.
She enjoyed all types of crafting, especially sewing and crocheting. One of her favorite things was gift-giving. She loved spending holidays with her grandkids, and she would show up with lots of beautifully-wrapped gifts for them. She loved animals, especially her beloved Shih Tzu-Poodle mix, “Peanut.”
Denise was preceded in death by her father, Leo; mother, Bette; and two brothers, Steve and Alan Parkin.
She is survived by her son, Justin (Brooke) Petersen; three grandchildren, Hudson, Greyson and Clara; and her brother, Brent (Maxine) Parkin.
In recent years, Denise faced many health challenges, and we would like to express gratitude to those who devoted their time to helping her.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, followed by a reception from 4-6 p.m. at the Evanston Roundhouse to share memories and condolences.
