Wyoming Downs is off and running for 2019

EVANSTON  The opening wekend of racing at Wyoming Downs is in the books. The track opened this past weekend, July 6-7, and will continue live thoroughbred and quarter horse racing  every Saturday and Sunday through Aug.18.

The opening weekend featured Wyoming Lottery Day on Saturday and Pink Out Day on Sunday to  celebrate cancer survivors. Everyone was encouraged to wear  pink. There was also a special race on the card. in “Raysha’s Race for Filly and Mares.”

The track offers special events in conjunction with the excitement of live racing throughout the season. Upcoming promotions include:

July 13 – 4th Annual Bet on Business Bazaar, featuring Evanston Area Small Businesses. No charge to participate.

July 21 – Celebration of Uinta County and local area Agri-Business. The first 500 customers receive a free Wyoming Downs T-shirt.

July 27 – Kids Triple Crown Stick Horse Races, featuring “Kentucky Derby” for ages five  and under, “Preakness” for ages six to nine and  “Belmont” for ages 10 to 12.

August 3 – The fourth Annual Wyoming Downs Brew Fest will begin at 12:30 p.m. Separate fee to attend. Following the last race, the second annual Select Mixed Horse Sale will be held.

August 4 – Ladies Day at the Races, featuring Best Derby Hat Contest. Three competitions, one for ladies 19 and above, one for ages 14 to 18 and one for kids ages six to 13.

August 10 – Legislative Day at the Races, featuring the Governor’s Cup, “honoring local and state elected officials”

August 16-18 – Youth Racing Experience: ages 15 to 18 – WYDOWNS.COM. Lodging and meals paid for, travel not.

August 17 – Celebration of Native American Heritage, hosting Indian Relay Race;

Third annual car show. Awards will be given for the following categories: Best of Show, People’s Choice and Best Paint;

Freedom Rally – Honoring all current and former military and first responders. Reserved space for bikes.

August 18 – Last Race Day, hosting Indian Relay Race, and awarding the leading owner, trainer and jockey.
