EVANSTON — American Legion Post 41 recently named Evanston Police Sgt. Kenny West Lawman of the Year.

West, a U.S. Army veteran, received the award on July 30. He’s been employed by the Evanston Police Department for 10 years.

“During this time, he has served as a patrol officer, field training officer, drug recognition expert, field sobriety test instructor, task force officer with the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and patrol sergeant,” according to a press release issued by EPD.

“Sgt. West received the award for his accomplishments while serving as a task force officer with DCI. These actions include a large and complex drug case involving over 35 suspects that were involved in the distribution of narcotics, such as heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine. So many suspects had been identified that several law enforcement agencies were involved in making arrests,” the release states.
