Thelma LaRue Walker, beloved mom and grandma, passed away at Rocky Mountain Care in Evanston, on Sunday, June 17, at the age of 98. She was born to Hyrum and Hester Ames in Salt Lake City, on Aug. 24, 1919.

Thelma loved to paint, and everyone wanted a piece of her artwork. There is a picture of hers hanging in the Lyman High School. She loved being outdoors spending time in her yard and working in her garden. She also loved to go camping, and she was the cook for all the camping trips. No one could make a roast or turkey underground and make it taste so delicious.

Thelma is survived by her children, Betty Kingston, Gary Saunders and Carolyn Lott; stepchildren, Wesley Walker, Denice Varley, Dovee Maughn, Darla Riggs, Durelle Hestings and Devere Walker; 12 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hyrum and Hester Ames; husbands, Darrell G. Walker and Vance H. Saunders; daughter, Susan Bloomquist; grandson, Vance Bloomquist; granddaughter, Angee Crosby; brothers, Oren Ames, Marion Ames, Albert Ames, Norman Ames, Arnold Ames, Russell Ames and Hyrum Ames; and sisters, Mary Adams, Zeltha Earl and Jeanette James.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, at the Elm Street LDS chapel in Evanston. A viewing will be held Friday evening at Crandall Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m., as well as one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the ward building. Interment will follow at the Evanston City Cemetery.
