EVANSTON — Red Devil wrestling traveled to Rock Springs to compete in the 4A West Conference regional matches on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15-16. Team scores were as follows: Kelly Walsh (266), Green River (226.5), Rock Springs (215), Natrona County (151.5), Evanston (114) and Laramie (65.5).
Individually, the Red Devils placed two wrestlers into the title matches in sophomore Kendall Cummings and freshman Brock Roberts. Individual places were as follows: Brandon VanGieson — eighth at 106 pounds; Jaxon Moore — eighth at 113 pounds; Logan Elsen — eighth at 120 pounds; Kody Rex — fifth at 126 pounds; Kendall Cummings — second at 132 pounds; Brock Roberts — second at 138 pounds; Payton Graham — sixth at 152 pounds; Bryson Davis — eighth at 152 pounds; Rigden Wagstaff — fourth at 160 pounds; Rylie Griggs — third at 170 pounds; Clay Lester — third at 182 pounds; Pablo Escalante — eighth at 195 pounds; Payt Burton — seventh at 220 pounds and Eric Orozco — fifth at 285 pounds.
Team scores from the eastern side of the state lined up this way: Cheyenne East (216), Thunder Basin (206), Cheyenne Central ( 203.5), Sheridan (184.5), Cheyenne South (80) and Campbell County (65).
All that remains is the state tournament this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22-23, at the Casper Events Center. The Herald will feature a preview of the state tournament for the Red Devils with thoughts from head coach Larry Wagstaff in this Friday’s issue.
