Outlaws had a busy weekend in Casper playing four games

The Outlaws played four games Saturday and Sunday. They played the Green River Knights, the Casper Oilers, the Cody Cubs and the Jackson Giants.

Outlaws-13 vs. Green River-3

For the fourth time this season the Outlaws faced Green River on Saturday, defeating the Knights three out of four times, including Saturday when the Outlaws won the game 13-3.

It didn’t take long for Green River to jump out to an early lead when, at the top of the first inning, Brendan Hopkins doubled on a fly ball to Outlaw catcher Reid Gross that allowed Androw Munoz to score for Green River. Evanston answered in the bottom of the first inning when Brandon Wicks doubled on a fly ball to center field and Braedon MacDonald tied the score. 

In the third inning, Munoz doubled on a fly ball to center field. This brought both Joseph Shultz and Taylor Jensen in to score. The Knights took the lead back 3-1.

The Outlaw defense held from then on and the Knights were not able to score again.

The Outlaws took the lead back in the bottom of the third inning when Brandon Wicks singled on a line drive to left field and then Griffen Mitchell doubled with a fly ball to right field. Wicks advanced to third base. Then Hunter Hicks doubled on a fly ball to left field that allowed Wicks and Mitchell to cross home plate, tying the game 3-3. Cris Periman then singled on a line drive to center field and Hicks crossed scored, giving the Outlaws the lead, 4-3.

The Outlaws were not done, Beau Lloyd singled on a line drive to left field and Periman advanced to second base. Then Periman advanced to third base after an error by the Green River catcher. Gross singled on a ground ball to the Knight’s short stop. Lloyd scored and Gross advanced to third.  Braedon MacDonald singled and Lloyd scored, then Brandon Wicks doubled on a fly ball to center field allowing both Gross and MacDonald to score.

The third inning ended with the Outlaws leading the Knights 8-3. Evanston continued to add to their lead with excellent hitting and defense, crushing the Knights 13-3. 

Outlaws-4 vs Casper Oilers-5

On Saturday afternoon, the Evanston Outlaws, fresh off their victory against Green River, squared off against the Casper Oilers. 

The Oultlaws took an early lead at the top of the second inning when Cris Periman walked to first base and then Chandler Anderson doubled on a line drive to left field, advancing Periman to third base. Periman scored on an error allowing Anderson to advance to third base. Brenden Thompson walked to first. On an error by Casper’s shortstop, Anderson crossed home plate and Thompson was safe at third base. Thompson then scored on a mishandled ball.

The Evanston Outlaws finished the top of the second inning leading the Oilers 3-0.

In the bottom of the third inning Oiler’s Duncan Johnson doubled on a line drive to left field and then stole third base. An error by Outlaw catcher Reid Gross gave Johnson the opportunity to cross home plate giving the Oilers their first run of the game.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Carter Young of the Oilers walked to first with Chandler Anderson pitching. Then Brooks Browning singled on a ground ball to shortstop MacDonald and Young advanced to second base.

Young was able to take third base after a mishandled ball and Browning advanced to third on the same pitch. The Outlaws changed out pitchers and brought in Cris Periman who then hit Ethan Leech with a pitch. 

Dalton Rux hit a fly ball to right field and Young scored. Browning held up at third base and Leech stayed at first base. Then Corbin Kirk hit a sacrifice fly to third baseman Beau Lloyd allowing Browning to score and tie up the game 3-3.

The Outlaws came back in the top of the sixth inning starting when Gross singled on a ground ball to the shortstop and MacDonald singled on a ground ball to left field. After a wild pitch, Gross scrambled to third base and then saw he had time to run for home, taking back the lead 4-3.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Evan Carlson hit a fly ball to Outlaw left fielder Brenden Thompson and due to an error by Thompson, Carlson advanced to third base. Then Jesse Carr hit a fly ball to center field and Carlson was able to cross home plate, tying the game 4-4. 

Carr advanced to third base on a wild pitch and Carter Young hit a sacrifice fly ball to left field to bring Carr home and taking the lead 5-4.

The Outlaws lost the game despite out-hitting the Oilers 11-5, Braedon MacDonald, Beau Lloyd and Reid Gross all had multiple hit for the Outlaws and MacDonald went 4-4 at the plate.

Outlaws-2 vs Cody Cubs-6

On Sunday the Outlaws had another double-header, facing the Cody Cubs and the Jackson Giants. 

The Outlaws fell behind early against Cody and couldn’t find a way to come back after the Cubs took the lead in the second inning. 

Brandon Wicks, Seth Lloyd and Braedon MacDonald all had multiple hits for the Outlaws. Wicks and Lloyd each drove in a run to lead the Outlaws. In all, the Outlaws had nine hits while the Cubs had seven.

In the second inning, Chantz Price gounded a ball to Outlaws shortstop Braeden MacDonald who was able to take out Cooper Brown as he ran toward third base but Price was safe at first and then Conner McLeod doubled on a ground ball to right field and Price was safe at third. After an error, Price scored the first run of the game for Cody for an early lead, 1-0. The Cubs were able to extend their lead in the top of the fourth inning when Cub Hunter Hays hit a ground ball and reached second base on an error by second baseman Hunter Hicks. This also helped Braden Polley reach third base.

Due to an error by Outlaw catcher Reid Gross, Polley was able to dash across home plate and Hays was safe at second base. Hays then ran for third base on another error by the Outlaws’ catcher. Heston Williams walked to first. Jordan Wasig doubled on a fly ball to left field and both Hays and Williams scored runs giving Cody a 3-0 lead.

The Outlaws tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the fifth inning when Brandon Wicks doubled on a line drive to center field. Then Seth Lloyd doubled on a drive to center field and Wicks scored the Outlaws first run of the game. 

The Outlaws scored again in the bottom of the sixth inning when Reid Gross singled on a ground ball to center field and then MacDonald singled on a ground ball to third base. Wicks then singled on a ground ball to center field, which brought Gross across home plate, edging the Outlaws closer to Cody 4-2.

That would be the last score the Outlaws would enjoy against the Cubs who scored again in the seventh inning handing the Outlaws a 6-2 loss in a hard-fought game.

Outlaws-8 vs Jackson Giants-16

The Outlaws scored first against the Jackson Giants when MacDonald, who was on third base after an error by Jackson’s third baseman, crossed home plate after Griffen Mitchell ground out.

The Giants answered right back with four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

MacDonald was pitching for the Outlaws and walked two players, Mac Hollingsworth and Matt Ellingson. Hollingsworth was safe at third base after a wild pitch and John Fisher walked on a MacDonald pitch. With the bases loaded, MacDonald hit Clayton Campbell and Hollingsworth scored. Then a fly ball to center field by Brian Fuez brought Ellingson across home plate. Then J. Kings walked, allowing Ellingson to score.

The Giants took a 3-1 lead over the Outlaws and Evanston changed out their pitcher, handing the mound to Seth Lloyd.

With Lloyd pitching, Seth Christiansen stepped up to bat and hit a ground ball towards second base. Clayton Campbell scored and the inning ended with Jackson taking a 4-1 lead.

In the fourth inning the Outlaws, thanks to an in-field home run by Griffen Mitchell, took the lead back briefly, with a score of 6-4.

In the fifth inning the Giants came back with homers by Campbell that scored two runs and then a double that scored another run and then Seth Christiansen hit a ground ball to second base which brought in another run. A ground ball mishandled by first baseman Mitchell allowed another scoring run by Jackson. The fifth inning ended with Jackson taking a 9-6 lead.

The Outlaws did score two more runs in the game but the damage was done and the Giants were not finished scoring, defeating the Outlaws 16-8.
