The public meeting with Opal Singleton of Millionkids, regarding human trafficking and its many entities and how it can play a role in our community will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, at Lyman High School Auditorium. The meeting is geared toward faith-based adults and teens. The event will be centered around the book “Seduced: The Grooming of America’s Teenagers,”which will be available to purchase.
Presenters will look at how predators access, groom, recruit and exploit young people through social media and online gaming. They will look at fantasy relationships and the how predators manage to seduce children they have never even met. They will look at specific apps, chat rooms and online games and explore case studies where predators were able to exploit a child.
They will also look at the latest technologies and how they are providing a major opportunity for our young people but that they also require major responsibilities. They will talk about signs to look for if you think an individual is being sextorted or recruited and what to do about it.
There is no cost for this event. For more information about Opal Singleton, visit Millionkids.org or contact Jan Kennah at (307) 782-7414.
