EVANSTON — Gov. Matt Mead received a standing ovation from those gathered at the Wyoming Economic Development Association (WEDA) conference on Friday morning, Sept. 21, when he came to give his parting thoughts on economic and community development for the state of Wyoming.
“The future is ours to build,” Mead said before asking the audience, “What would you tell someone from another country about Wyoming and why the state is a great place to do business?”
Mead went on to discuss the importance of Wyoming moving beyond the boom and bust cycle. Prior governors of the 1960s, the ’70s and beyond, all stated the need for the state to diversify the economy. ENDOW is a solution, Mead said. Some criticism about ENDOW is that it’s been tried before, but Mead said the difference now is it’s a 20-year plan, and it’s not tied to a governor’s terms.
