The Pioneer Days celebration is one of the busiest travel weekends in Utah and southwest Wyoming. Law enforcement in Wyoming and Utah will be out in force targeting drunk drivers and enforcing seat belt laws.
From Thursday, July 19, through Tuesday, July 24, Wyoming and Utah law enforcement will team up as part of a multi-state, multi-agency traffic enforcement operation, spanning Uinta County and Utah’s Summit and Wasatch counties. Celebrations are held throughout Uinta County for Pioneer Days and area law enforcement will increase their efforts to enforce traffic safety.
Agencies staffing the operation include the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Evanston Police Department, Uinta County Sheriff’s Office, Summit County Sheriff’s Office, Park City Police, Utah Highway Patrol, Heber Police and the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office.
“During this year’s Pioneer Days festivities, don’t risk losing your life by drinking and driving. Help make everyone’s holiday safer by driving sober,” WHP Lt. Matt Arnell said. “Remember,” he warned, “there’s no excuse — drive sober or get pulled over.”
“This will be a zero-tolerance effort, so expect to see all Uinta County law enforcement out there watching for violations,” Evanston Police Chief Jon Kirby said.
“Drunk driving only leads to disaster and tragedy,” added Uinta County Sheriff Doug Matthews. “It’s never worth the risk.”
Along with the enhanced enforcement effort, the Wyoming Highway Patrol is urging drivers to help keep Wyoming’s roadways safe by calling the Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately (REDDI) hotline number at (800) 442-9090 to report suspected drunk drivers. Callers should be prepared to provide the dispatcher with a description of the vehicle, its location and direction of travel.
