EVANSTON — Home Run for a Cure will take place this Saturday, July 14, at the Overthrust Ballfield complex. It will cost $20 per person and begin at 8:30 a.m. with a super draft, just like a schoolyard draft, according to organizer Toni Hawks, so individuals will sign up as players and not as teams. Teams stay the same through round-robin play and the players will again be drafted for the competition that will follow later in the day.
The all-day festivities benefit the Uinta County Cares Cancer Foundation and will dovetail into events next Saturday, July 21, in conjunction with the downtown car show, including a dunk tank, a bail-from-jail fundraiser and much more. All proceeds raised will stay local and will be used for anything from helping with treatment to transportation costs for Uinta County cancer patients.
Hawks is excited for a day of fun which supports a very worthy cause that she and others have been working on for months. Home Run for a Cure will feature games in which regular softball is played for an inning, with the following inning devoted to kickball or running the bases backwards, as in, running to third-base, following a base hit, instead of to first.
There will be a home run derby on field No. 2 for both male and female contestants.
The event will feature a plethora of fantastic auction items donated by many businesses, organizations and individuals, along with concessions including brisket. More details will follow on next Saturday’s combined event along with results from this Saturday’s fun fundraiser in an issue of the Herald next week.
The organizers hope to break last year’s $3,000 raised (hopefully, many times over), but they can’t do it without you. See you at the ballfields.
