The Wyoming Academic Challenge (WAC) team from EHS competed on the campus of Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington on Feb. 17. Out of 13 teams, Evanston won 1st place.
Team captain Ian Siegismund delivered his strongest performance to date, and team members Heinrich Schoedel, Jake Paucarpura, Rachael Hansen and Allyson Sawyer all had significant contributions to the Red Devil victory. In addition to medals, team members earned one-year, full-tuition scholarships to Eastern Wyoming Community College.
The team is coached by EHS French language teacher Brian Hill.
The Wyoming Academic Challenge has been going on for nearly 20 years among high schools in the state. Schools from across Wyoming come together in competitions, where students answer questions over a period of four hours in a challenging, quiz-bowl type format.
Questions are on a wide variety of academic topics, ranging from math and science to the arts, literature, pop culture, history, and all-around trivia. Points are awarded to teams, not individuals, and winning the competition requires a well-rounded effort from the whole team.
