Betty (Gilmore) Scholz

Betty (Gilmore) Scholz, 86, died Aug. 17, in Golden, Colorado, surrounded by her family, after a long battle with COPD.

Betty was born in Evanston on Dec. 27, 1931, and graduated from Evanston High School in 1949. She was raised on the family ranch on Hilliard Flat before moving to town for high school. She worked for a trucking company in Kemmerer, Wyoming, where she met Robert Scholz.

Bob, a WWII Navy veteran, worked for the U.S. Forest Service which took them to Elko, Nevada; Custer, South Dakota; Grand Junction, Colorado; Washington, D.C.; and back to Arvada, Colorado.

In 1957, their daughter Diane was born in Hot Springs, South Dakota, and in 1960 a son, Kyle, was born but died seven months later in Grand Junction.

Betty was a very good bowler in the Arvada area leagues where she made many long-lasting friends. Betty enjoyed many trips traveling around the U.S. with her bowling team. In recent years, Betty enjoyed attending the American Legion Post for conversation and dinner with friends and veterans.

She is survived by her loving daughter Diane (Seery) and son-in-law Dave Seery of Golden, Colorado; grandson Kyle Seery and wife Alaina Seery of Golden; and granddaughter Shannon Seery of Denver; sisters Flora Wagstaff, Gay Narramore; and brother Robert Gilmore. 

She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph Gilmore and Elizabeth (Cook) Gilmore; husband Robert Scholz; son Kyle; brothers Fred Gilmore, Lloyd Gilmore, Junior Gilmore, Bud Gilmore and Gary Gilmore; and sister Ellen Lester.

Private interment will be held.
