Allie Lee Taylor Lawler was born in Evanston on July 25, 1927, to Francis T. Taylor Sr. and Allie Edna Brown. She was born prematurely at seven months, kept in a shoe box on the oven door to stay warm and given eye droppers of whiskey to keep her heart going.
It kept her going for 90 years! She truly had a zest for life. She grew up in Mountain View and Evanston, graduating from Evanston High School.
She moved to Ogden when she was 18 and met the love of her life, William Eugene Lawler, while working at ASU PW Detachment in Ogden. They were married three months later on Jan. 18, 1946, in Salt Lake City. After his discharge from the Army, they lived in Ridgway, Illinois; Evanston; and finally settled in Ogden.
Allie held many positions over the years. She worked in the medical field, in education, as a secretary, and she was always a florist/designer. She served as president of the Ogden Garden Club.
She was very active in the church she loved. She taught religious education, directed both children and adult choirs, decorated the church, played the organ and sang for many of the Catholic churches in the area for more than 40 years.
She served as president of the Promotors of the Sacred Heart of Jesus for four terms; she was president of the Council of Catholic Women; she served three terms on the St. Joseph Church Parish Council, to name a few. She received multiple religious awards, including Woman of the Year and the Pope Pius X Award.
She is survived by her greatest joys, her husband; and their children, Francis (Margaret) Lawler, Teresa (Dennis) Hawkins, Joyce Hawkins, Mary (Tom) Ryan, Deana Balistrire, Geraldine Lawler-Suski, and Thongsy (Chanhday) Darasouk; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister, Althea Taggart and numerous close family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Francis T. Taylor Jr.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Sept. 25, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 514 24th St. in Ogden.
Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6-8 p.m., with Rosary at 7 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Interment will be on Sept. 26, at 1 p.m. at the Evanston City Cemetery.
