CASPER — The Wyoming Coaches Association All-Star games will be held at Casper College on Saturday. This year’s games include a few local athletes playing their final high school matches.
Evanston’s Kaytlen Freeland will compete for the South team in the volleyball match. As an outside hitter for the Red Devils, Freeland was a two-time all-state selection and was a member of the 2015 team that made it to the 4A state championship match.
Also from Evanston, Jesse Barker will take his all-around skills to the South team for the boys’ basketball game. Barker was a team captain for the Evanston Red Devils and was a 2016-17 all state selection.
Joining Barker on the South team is Lyman native Preston Quinney. Quinney was a 3A standout for the Lyman Eagles, which knocked off the eventual state champion Riverton Wolverines to win the 3A West Regional Championship. That victory for Lyman marked Riverton’s only loss on the season.
Mountain View also has an athlete represented in this week’s all-star matchups. A standout on both the volleyball and basketball courts, Marley Newton was selected to the South girls basketball team. Though none of Newton’s teams were able to raise a state championship banner, the Buffalos were always in the mix and had multiple state championship appearances between volleyball and basketball.
The WCA All-Star Volleyball match will start things off on Saturday at 1 p.m. The girls’ basketball game will follow at 3 p.m., and the boys’ basketball game will begin at 5 p.m.
All three of these games will be available to watch online at Mylocalradio.com.
