Early Sunday morning, as a coyote howled and the elk were bugling, our loving Iya was called back to his home in Heaven.
Mike was born Sept. 24, 1962, to Larry and Arlene Nelson. He loved his parents dearly, and we sure enjoyed hearing many childhood stories.
In 1999, he fell in love with Jackie Sabey, his soul mate. They were married on Dec. 21, 1999. He gladly took on the responsibility of providing, loving and caring for her and her three kids.
In 2008, Mike’s life forever changed. His first grandchild was born, Daymon Michael. They instantly became best friends. Shortly after that, Mike was diagnosed with cancer. He loved living. He fought and fought the brutal battle. He is the strongest man we’ve ever known.
Mike was blessed with seven grandchildren: Daymon, Charles, Derrick, Bryley, Kenadee, Erik and Shaynee. They were his life. If he wasn’t driving truck for Cardwell, he was sure to be fishing or teaching the kids all about life and the great outdoors.
He is survived by his dear loving wife Jackie, Children: Tyler (Stephanie) Sabey, Marinda (Michael) Okelberry, Jordan (Ryan) Leavitt, his mother-in-law, Norma Sabey, seven grandkids, his sister Donna Bentley, other family members and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Steve, and his sister Bonnie.
You will be truly missed. You made such an impact on everyone’s life.
‘Til we meet again, fly high and enjoy being free.
